In the GAA calendar the league is the bread and butter of the club scene and no more so than in the Kerry GAA football scene. Now in it’s 43rd season Kerry GAA fans travel all over the county to support their club teams. From Tarbert to Kenmare and Dingle to Rathmore and everywhere in between.

Kerry GAA County League Final 2013

This year the Kerry GAA Football County League Senior Football final was an all Tralee affair. Kerins O’Rahillys were pitted against their long time rivals Austin Stacks to see who would get local bragging rights and claim the Credit Union Division 1 Senior Football County League Final 2013.  Strand Road was the venue this year giving Kerins O’Rahillys home advantage.  Austin Stacks representing the Rock Street area of Tralee were last winners in 2011 and were after their 10th Kerry Football League Championship. They were also looking to put a poor performance in the County Championships Final behind them after a heavy defeat to Dr. Crokes.  Kerins O’Rahillys for their part were looking for their 5th league title, having last won in 2008.

These two teams could not be separated when they met in round 1 back in March.  This  match was played under heavy showers which made the surface slippery underfoot.  Austin Stacks had the upper hand during a close first half and led by 0-05 to 0-03 going into the interval.  Indeed for most most of the second half it looked like it was going to be Austin Stacks’ day.  They managed to keep their nose in front up until the last 10 minutes until Kerins clawed their way back to 0-09 a piece.  In the end however it was the men from Strand Road who came out on top with a score of 0-11 to 0-10, a great finish to a furious game. Well done to Kerins O’Rahilly GAA Club and commiserations to Austin Stacks on a gallant effort.  They will both be joined by Finuge and Currow next season.
