Kerry Operation Transformation
Here in Kerry the Operation Transformation programme has been followed with great interest this year. This is due to one of our own participating. Paudie O’Mahony from Killarney was a member of the Kerry Senior Football team that won the All Ireland Senior Football Final in 1975 .He was goalkeeper on that day part of the team that started an era in GAA history that will surely never be surpassed.Their epic encounters during this golden age of Kerry football are legendary.
Paudie O’Mahony – Our Kerry Leader
Paudie has been doing great so far on the show. His life since leaving the Kerry football set up has taken a few wrong turns. Along the way he has battled his issues with weight gain. This year he decided to do something about it and get his life back on track. To do so is an admirable feat in itself. To do so in the full glare of publicity is a remarkable achievement. He is a prime example to anyone who may be going through tough times that no matter how low you fall it is possible to get up again especially with the support of family and friends.
Kerry GAA Legends walk Operation Transformation
Since he was chosen as one of the 6 leaders to lead the nation in this year’s Operation Transformation show the local community have been fully behind him. On Saturday 6,000 people from all over Kerry including his family joined Paudie on the walk around the beautiful Killarney National Park. His champion teammates came out also to support him in this very difficult task he has set himself. They are behind him in force and came together to cheer him on in a mini-reunion in the Ross Hotel Killarney on the morning of the walk. Jimmy Deenihan, John and Ger O’Keeffe, Pat McCarthy, Ogie Moran, Brendan Lynch, Ger Driscoll, Mickey Ned O’Sullivan, Paudie Lynch, Ger Power, Mick Gleeson – the hotel was full of famous Kerry GAA men and set many heads turning! Also there was broadcasting legends, Micheál O’Muircheartaigh and Radio Kerry’s Weeshie Fogarty as well as Munster rugby legend Mick Galwey from Currow, himself an All Ireland Football champion in 1986.You can imagine the stories swapped in that room.
Well done to everyone who turned up on the day.We all wish Paudie the very best for the next few weeks. We will watch with baited breath. We in the kingdom are all behind you Paudie! You can track his progress here on the Operation Transformation website and on the John Murray Show on RTE Radio 1.
